Writing Wrongs: How Not To Build A Standard
Jim Melton has been the SQL standard editor for more than two decades, and has published five books covering various aspects of the SQL standard. He helped develop SQL/XML, specifying technology for effectively using SQL and XML together.
Jim is a co-chair of the W3C's XML Query Working Group and an editor of two of the Recommendations associated with XQuery: Functions & Operators and XQueryX, as well as co-editor of several other specifications. In 2006, he published (with Stephen Buxton) "Querying XML: XQuery, XPath, and SQL/XML in Context".
Jim is a frequent speaker at conferences on various subjects related to the Web and its underlying technologies. His personal time (such as it is) is spent sailing and working on his 40' sailboat Dream SeQueL, scuba diving, backpacking, hiking, and -- most importantly -- helping to run Sheltie Rescue of Utah.
